Ondo State Contingent at the ongoing National Sports Festival taking place in Abuja has recorded its first gold medal through Sarah Oniru.
The victory was made known in a statement issued by the Press Officer, Ministry of Youth and Sports, Sunday Ajibola and obtained by the THELENZ.
Oniru attained the feat in the 100 meters Freestyle women para-swimming event.
The state team also excel in table tennis, the duo of Wale Fagbamila and Taiwo Mati won their Men Doubles match and thereby advanced to the round of 16 of the game, the state now stand a chance to compete for medals in the men and women singles finals following their successes in the semis.
Similarly, Calistus Daramola has qualified for the finals in the singles.
Reacting to the success so far, the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Mr. Saka Yusuf Ogunleye, described the victory of Sarah Oniru an inspiration to the team.
He commended her for making Ondo one of the first few states to have won medals at the event.
The Commissioner reiterated his confidence in the state’s contingent of performing excellently by winning more medals for the state.
