A former police commissioner, Samuel Adetuyi has condemned security tactics deployed by the Nigerian Army to fight kidnapping in Ondo and Ekiti states, by publicly launching drones, describing it as unnecessary and unprofessional.

The Nigerian Army, 32 Artillery Brigade, Owena Barracks, Akure ,last Friday, with journalists present, launched two drones to track activities of kidnappers in the two states to help comb the vast forests towards identifying movements and activities of suspected criminals.

Just six days after the event, a driver, Felix Akinde was kidnapped along Akure – Ikere road.

No suspect has been arrested in connection with the abduction while the whereabouts of Felix is still unknown as of press time.

Speaking with ROVING REPORTERS ,the former police commissioner said such security measure should not have been made public.

Adetuyi who is also a legal Professional said “Whatever security method adopted, a natural security person will keep it by himself.

It is not something you discussed openly and again ,the Army have a reason why they did it that way.

Of course ,if you want to fight your enemies ,why should you show your enemies the way you are going to fight ? It is a very simple analogy.

If they are telling everyone that they want to use drone, that is telling the kidnappers ,this is what they want to do.

But the truth is that government must come out and show that they want security in Nigeria and they have to do it by creating capacity for the police.

The police is the only organization saddled with internal security.

They must have the capacity to discharge this responsibility. If they don’t have, other efforts might be useless.

Combat helicopters , customised vehicles and other modern technology devices are what police need as it is done in the developed countries and ours should not be different, particularly now that we are faced with security challenges.

Whatever that will put the police and other security agencies on top of the situation is what the government must embark on at this moment.

Government must be proactive, it is not about when something has happened before you go there. It has no security advantage. ” Adetuyi said .
