The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has described the purported removal of the Vice chancellor of University of Lagos, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe as illegal and violation of the rule of law.
The Union however called on the federal government to order that status quo remain in the school for tranquility and peace to be sustained in the university.
The chairman of ASUU in UNILAG, Comrade Dele Ashiru made this known when reacting to the development in the university on Channels Television.
Ashiru said “There is no acting vice chancellor in the University of Lagos. An acting vice chancellor can only be appointed on the recommendation of the senate.
As I speak to you, the senate of the university of Lagos has not been officially informed of either the removal of professor Toyin Ogundipe or the appointment of an acting Vice chancellor.
So, as far as the university of Lagos ,Senate and the community is concerned ,there is nobody as an acting Vice chancellor.
Our recommendation is that it is clear that the Wale Babalakin- led council is a lawless council and the federal government can not be seen to be supporting illegality and violation of the rule of law.
Government should order that status quo remain before this illegal action causes more chaos in the university. ”
